Property #6 The Trails

Another GREAT area we were considering was The Trails which is about 5 miles west of Chapel Hill. The Trails is made up of about 100 houses on 200+ acres with trails leading from every house, to the club house and horse stables. There are plenty of paved roads so it's great for bike riding and walking.

We found a house just over 2000 sq feet on 1.28 acres. The house was in excellent condition, 3 bedrooms, an office, studio/den, vaulted ceilings and skylights, fireplace, huge laundry room and large deck with a Jacuzzi. The asking price was $245,000.

We really liked the place, but it was in county schools and has community fees that ate up a lot of the tax savings we would get from not living in town. The other consideration was gas. Yes, the type you put in your car. With predictions that gasoline will reach $3.00 a gallon by the end of the year, that would also eat up our savings.

We didn't rule the place out, but we didn't jump on it either.
