Weaver Street Market-Sunday Jazz Brunch

Looking for a relaxing way to start your Sunday morning... Try Weaver Street's Brunch. From 11am to 1pm on Sundays starting in the late Spring there is live music outside on the lawn. The Jazz Brunch is a bit of a misnomer because you will only hear jazz a few times over the season. More likely than not you will hear folk, country, pop, reggae or some other form of interanational music.

It's a very popular event and can get very crowded. If you want to sit at a table you should probably get there before 930am as most of the tables will be taken shortly after that. Arriving early will also give you the advantage of not having to wait in line to get your food as the lines can get painfully long as the masses converge on the salad bar and buffet table. Once the plates are full, it gets even worse as you converge on the two check out counters. I usually look at the cafe check out and then over to the grocery check out and if the lines are shorter at the grocery check out I head over there to save time and hopefully eat my food before it gets cold.(But I've learned to get there early to avoid all that).

By 11am, I would say the place is a total madhouse with the check out lines backed up to the coffee area making it a long wait confused by people trying to get into the line to get their first cup of coffee or refill.(If you are getting a refill, it's acceptable to cut into the line to get it and then cut the line at the cashier and hand your quarter to the cashier saving you a lot of time waiting).

If all the tables outside are taken you have a choice to sit inside, or sit on the grass in front of the band. This area will also fill up so you may want to get your spot early. I would also try to decide if you want to sit in the sun or the shade. With the sun moving over the 2 hour period you may find that the cool shady spot you were comfortably enjoying has slowly become a raging inferno as your now sitting in the direct sunlight. Look around you at the trees and try to imagine the path of the sun to determine the best spot to get the exposure you want.

Another choice you'll have to make is whether you want the music to be in the background so you can carry on a conversation or if you want the music to be loud making conversation difficult. Each band has it's own equipment and sound man, so there is nothing uniform about the sound. It can be way too loud, way too low, unbalanced, muffled or plain incredible, but there is no way to tell when you lay down that blanket. When the band is setting up and making it's sound check you'll have a chance to get a feel for them and should be able to figure out roughly where to sit....but it will be difficult to guage it accurately.

Anyway, once you're situated in your choice location you can sit back and enjoy your morning/afternoon.
