Seth Elliott
Ex-Owner/Operator of Pedalers
Express
Carrboro, arrived: Spring '97
Originally From: Massachusetts
I started Pedalers Express in the fall of 1997 with a cargo bicycle
called a Long Haul. These bikes are custom made in Eugene, Oregon
where there is a similar courier business that I have modeled
Pedalers Express after. Pedalers Express is the only bicycle courier
service in the Triangle. I have since added a second cargo bike
a trailer and a mountain bike to my delivery "fleet."
Among my customers are copy shops, printers, university departments,
accountants, local publications, graphic designers, travel agencies,
and individual residents.
I serve on the Carrboro Transportation Advisory Board and hope to
see Carrboro and Chapel Hill continue to become more and more bicycle
friendly.
In my spare time, I enjoy writing, checking out local music, and
going to movies with my wife Rachel. |

Hank Strauss
Aurora Restaurant
Owner
Lives in Carrboro
Arrived 1980 from Asheville, NC
Transplanted from Washington DC where I worked as tenant advocate
for the District of Columbia. Attend on semester ot UNC Law School
which was followed by a long association with the Aurora. Began
as a waiter, then became an assistant manager upon Aurora's relocation
from Franklin St. to Carr Mill. Assumed ownership in 1984. Aurora
introduced the area to a truer form of Italian than the Italian-American
Speghetti house which previously defined the cuisine. Aurora is
presently located at the location of the old Slugs on the Pines. |

Officer
Bob Murdaugh
Police Officer
Chatham County, arrived 1973 from Durham, NC
A two-time Duke University freshman, I came into law enforcement
entirely by accident. Though I grew up in Durham, I always preferred
the atmosphere in Chapel Hill.
The first time I saw a Carrboro officer it was in Dunkin Donuts
on W. Franklin St. Not knowing that Carrboro was only a few blocks
west, I thought he was a long way from home.
Carrboro is my adopted town for 23 years, but I enjoy motorcycle
touring all over the United States. |
